Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is the story of a bunch of women who gossip, connive and steal each other's husbands. It is hilarious and one of my favorite comedies. This is the original film that was released in 1939. There is a modern remake, but I have not seen that. I don't see how anyone could top the original with the cast that they had. Rosalind Russell and Joan Crawford are hilarious.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who likes fast paced comedies about bitchy women.
I especially liked... | ||
the performance of Rosalind Russell as the fast talking, bitch, Sylvia Fowler. She is hilarious!
I didn't like... | ||
Norma Shearer as Mary. I feel she got the part because of her husband being Irving Thalberg. She is the only weak link in the cast. She is so good and sweet that she is sickening in her naive behavior.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
see other comedies that were written about this time. There is nothing like the dialogue in movies from the 30s and 40s.
This DVD made me feel...
like I'd seen one of the best films from the best year ever for movies. If Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz hadn't come out that year, this one would have been a standout.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
is excellent with the exception of Norma Shearer. I don't like her acting - she overacts, in my opinion.
I recommend this DVD because...
it is hilarious and Rosalind Russell's performance is unforgetable.
Further Comments... | ||
I love old movies and this is one of my favorite ever. It is amazing how you do not need the men for the women to obsess about them. You never see any of the men, but they are referred to constantly. They are left to you imagination. This movie is one of a kind (as far as I know) in that sense. Claire Booth Luce wrote the script. Hilarious!
