Summary of this Book...
A great guide and inspiration for how to write a good travel journal, and actually it can almost all be applied to everday writing and journaling. Includes all sorts of advice, from how to pick out a good journal and use mementos from your trip as decoration, to writing advice and prompts, to a discussion on the pros and cons of blogging or twittering versus writing a traditional journal.
This type of Book is good for...
Writing advice, especially travel writing, motivation to write, and thoughts on blogging.
I especially liked...
One of her most important points I thought was that journaling can really be a way to make your experience deeper and more meaningful. By paying more attention to details and taking the time to record them and revisit the events of the day you live more mindfully and get more out of every day.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Sit down and write in my journal. In fact Writing Away was so inspiring that several times I had to put the book down and stop reading in order to get out a writing itch, either a new entry in my journal or things I remembered from my most recent trip.
This Book made me feel...
Thoughtful, creative, and excited for my next trip!
The author of this Book...
Lavinia Spalding - love her writing style. You can also check out her other book ("With a Measure of Grace: The Story and Recipes of a Small Town Restaurant").
I recommend this Book because...
I really enjoyed it. It was never a dry how-to book, and was a constant inspiration. Every chapter contains gems to take away. I'm planning on rereading it before my next trip, and getting extra copies to give to all my writing and travelling friends.
