Summary of this Book...
No fewer than 133 poems are included in this hefty, but beautifully designed and illustrated anthology of award-winning poems from the annual Tom Howard Poetry Contest and the annual Margaret Reid Prize for Traditional Verse.
This type of Book is good for...
all poets, both aspiring and professional.
I especially liked... | ||
"Island Matinee" by the late Jacqueline Cooke, one of the finest poets of recent years, whose death in 2008 was a sad loss to contemporary poetry.
I didn't like... | ||
the winning poem. I loved all the other poems in the book but I thought "Love's Labor Found" just a little too labored for its own good. It's the sort of verse that critics endorse. I thought it would have been far more effective at a quarter the length.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
polish up my own verses.
This Book made me feel...
glad that so many poets have achieved the success they deserve.
The author of this Book...
has contributed a couple of fine poems himself. I really enjoyed "Shopping Mall".
I recommend this Book because...
with just that one reservation, it is a wonderfully inspiring collection of contemporary verse.
Further Comments... | ||
I wish there was a rating higher than five to describe the superlative illustrations.
