Summary of this Book...
This 326-page large-format book certainly gives extraordinarily great value for only $19.95. The author's theme revolves around both Hollywood and British movies that boast international casts. The cover, for example, provides an illustration of Germany's Curt Jurgens, America's Orson Welles and Britain's Sylvia Syms in "Ferry to Hong Kong". Illustrated and discussed at length (with full cast and camera credits) inside the book, we find such films as "The Sundowners" starring America's Robert Mitchum and Britain's Deborah Kerr; "The Ghost and Mrs Muir", starring Gene Tierney (American) and Rex Harrison (British); "Gentleman Jim", starring Errol Flynn (Australian), Alexis Smith (American); "Land of the Pharaohs" directed by Hollywood's Howard Hawks, starring British Jack Hawkins and Joan Collins; "Personal Affair", starring the aforesaid Gene Tierney and Britain's Leo Genn. Around 200 such films are discussed and detailed.
This type of Book is good for...
every classic movie lover.
I especially liked... | ||
the detailed coverage given to "Bridge on the River Kwai", "Father Brown, Detective", "Hobson's Choice", "Knight without Armor", "The Lady Vanishes", "Swiss Family Robinson", "Tom Jones" and "The Wicked Lady" -- eight of my twelve favorite films!
I didn't like... | ||
the inclusion of that all-star, James Bond spoof, "Casino Royale", or that disappointing Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton vehicle, "The V.I.P.s".
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
buy the best of these movies on DVD so that I could watch them again.
The author of this Book...
is inclined to include too many comedies. Almost a quarter of the 200 movies detailed in the book could be described as comedies of one sort or another.
I recommend this Book because...
it provides such fascinating details on so many favorite films. And where else can you buy a book as heavy as this for only $19.95?
