Summary of this Book...
Written by the director of a prominent Stress Reduction Clinic in the United States, the book is one of the best I have found for the person who is curious about what meditation is, is not and how it can make an impact on everyday life. While written by a meditation expert, the book is not difficult to follow nor do I feel it has been dumbed down. It is a solid, all round introduction to mindfulness.
This type of Book is good for...
ANYONE interested in trying to educate themself about meditation. The writing is straight forward with simple, to the point examples.
I especially liked... | ||
the defining of the "state of non-doing". The author paints a very clear picture of what meditation is and what it is not. I applaud the fact he makes an effort to explain that while meditating may be a "spiritual" act for someone, not all meditation is spiritual.
I didn't like... | ||
some of the authors's prolonged analogies. Introduce it, explain it, move on. I don't need four or five examples; one or two is suffice.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
make the effort to incorporate meditation into my daily routine. I had a strengthened desire to live in the moment.
This Book made me feel...
I could master the ancient practice of meditation.
The author of this Book...
tries to make the practice of meditation understandable and available to everybody. He goes out of his way to provide wonderful tips on how to incorporate non-doing into your daily life.
I recommend this Book because...
it was able to provide me with a greater comprehension of what meditation is all about. If it helps me, it will help the majority of beginners.
Further Comments... | ||
If you've been curious about meditation and mindfulness, but have been overwhelmed by the materials and don't know where to start, let me point the way. This book provides enough insight into the process, one could easily decide if this was something worthy of their effort. Should one choose to lead a life of mindfulness, this book will be referenced, as a back to basics tool, for years to come.
