Odd Thomas uses his ability to see the spirits of our dearly departed to track down the people that kidnapped his best friend and murdered that friend's father. Or, rather, he uses a sixth-sense sort of offshoot of that ability to track his friend down. But it's not as easy as that.

Long plane rides and trips to the beach. It's easy, quick, and holds your attention just enough.

Is known for his Suspense and he does his craft well here. He just doesn't branch out into anything but that, and I need lots of branches to really settle into a story. That's just the point, though, isn't it? You're not supposed to "settle into" suspense, are you?

Everybody needs a quick, don't-make-me-think-too-much read every once in awhile. Right?
