Summary of this Book...
This book is an account of a 16 year old boy, Holden Caulfield's, stay in New York after being kicked out of one of many schools. Holden's view on the world is a very cynical one and he tells us about all of his experiences of the days and recollects his past. Through this we learn mainly about Holden and learn about how he and most of us think as we make the transition from child to adult.
This type of Book is good for...
It's really good for anyone past 8th grade I'd say. The novel is very easy to relate to if you yourself are around 16 and you really find yourself very close to Holden. If you're older then you can certainly relate to the way Holden feels and the way you felt back then and also the way Holden views adults and society. I would suggest this book to anyone mature enough to understand it.
I especially liked... | ||
The way it was written. It's almost as if you sat down to listen to this boy whos just telling a story about the things he's experianced. It doesn't even feel like you're reading a book but rather just hearing his story.
I didn't like... | ||
Sometimes Holden can be a very unlikeable character. And also if you can't relate to him, its very hard to really get the message of this book. Some of the events in the book make it hard to understand exactly what it is the author is trying to tell us, but it is still an amazing book and one that really makes you think.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it over and over again. I wanted to meet Holden and just hear more about his life. As Holden says himself in the book, I wish I knew the author personally and I could call him up whenever I wanted.
This Book made me feel...
This book really made me think about my own growing up and my own cynical, at times, look on life.
The author of this Book...
Is J.D. Salinger. I haven't read anything else by him but judging from this book he is a very powerful author who can certainly get a reader involved.
I recommend this Book because...
It will really make you reexamine your own life. Anyone who can relate to Holden would probably agree that theres a piece of him in all of us. If you're at the point in your life where you're still desperately cleaving to childhood but being thrown into the harsh reality that you've grown up, this is really the book for you.
Further Comments... | ||
It's a very fast read (I read it in three days) and you'll be wishing it's longer by the end.
