Helen is homeless after fleeing her abusive father, but with the friendship of her pet rat and a love for Beatrix Potter she embarks on a path that shadows Potter's life.

Those who have never read a graphic novel. It is an easy read with a flowing plot and fantastic artwork full of emotion.

Following the story through both dialogue and pictures.

The cliches and plot devices throughout and the contrived feel of some of the character interactions.

Rewrite the start of one of my own stories and avoid some of the things I noticed Talbot did not avoid.

It is important to research different styles and presentations of writing to get ideas for your own work. Even something that leans too heavily on devices can teach you to be creative if you can see where the author went wrong.
