Summary of this Book...
Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize winning novel "To Kill A Mockinbird" is centered around Maycomb County, Alabamba, in which a mid-aged Atticus Finch quarrels with a cast of racial controversy in his role as attorney for a black man. Lee's main character Scout Finch passes three years of her life (some tragic incidents, some happy), with the range in her story telling that's both unusual and unmatched by other writing.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who's interested in small town behavior. If you're a fan of the famous Willia Cather, then Harper Lee's writing is likely to agree with your tastes. If not, this book is such an important testament to powerful writing that it should be required reading anyway.
I especially liked...
The way the author was able to captivate my senses and induce a true sense of wonder that kept me attentive from page 1-to the end of the book.
I didn't like...
Some of the small town values and traditions. I'm sure it won't bother most people, but having lived bitterly in a small Ohio town for three years of my own life, I am always pessimistic about the subject matter.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Inspire other people to get into "To Kill A Mockinbird" and I also wanted to see the movie, which I haven't done just yet.
This Book made me feel...
Emotional at times and for a good majority of the book, sympathetic towards it's characters. The storyline drew me in in such a way that I just couldn't put the book down
The author of this Book...
"To Kill A Mockingbird" is the only book Harper Lee ever published. Once friends with the late Truman Capote, she helped him do research for his novel In Cold Blood.
I recommend this Book because...
If you're a writer, which you are, then you owe it to yourself to examine her writing style. Once again, it is in my opinion that this book should be required reading for every High School student. However, when it was taken off our Junior Reading List, I went out and purchesed the book on my own acord and blazed right through it. It's a great read.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Unfortunatly, the pacing in "To Kill A Mockingbird" can feel slow and like it's waiting to get somewhere but can't achieve any kind of momentum.
Further Comments...
This book is one of the better items I've read recently. It's also featured on many top 100 novels list. You have my promise that you'll find something in this book to warrent it's purchase.
