Summary of this Book...
When Sybil Danforth loses a mother during a difficult childbirth, her first instinct is to save the baby. The roads to the hospital are impassable with ice, so she takes matters into her own hands. She performs a C-section and saves the baby. But was the mother really dead when she made that decision? You'll have to decide for yourself. The author chose to use the narrative voice of Sybil's fourteen year old daughter Connie as well as journal extracts from Sybil herself. This book is structured so well that everything happens at exactly the right time.
This type of Book is good for...
Reading when you want to be completely immersed in a book.
I especially liked... | ||
The writing style, which was easy to read but elegant at the same time.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read another book by the same author!
I recommend this Book because...
It is an excellent story that is well-written. It would especially appeal to those with an interest in midwifery.
I don't recommend this Book because...
There is some minor drug use by both Sybil and Connie, as well as minor inappropriate behavior. If you are easily offended, you may want to skip this one. The descriptions of the births may be too graphic for some, as well.
Further Comments... | ||
Overall, I was very impressed by this book. The characters are fully developed, even the minor players. It is perfectly paced and held my attention to the last page.
