Summary of this Book...
J.R.R. Tolkien is well known worldwide for his novels: "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". For all Tolkien fans out there, this is a wonderful book to introduce Tolkien's work to youngsters especially now that Christmas is coming. This book contains illustrated letters written and illustrated by Tolkien, to his young children from 1920 till 1939, from Father Christmas(Santa Claus). Each letter is a funny incident from North Pole where Father Christmas lives and prepares gifts every year for all the children around the world.
This type of Book is good for...
...children of ALL ages, to get acquainted with the excellent writings of J.R.R.Tolkien. The colourful illustrations will fascinate you and your children and each letter -written as a short story- will make you laugh with it's hilarious plot. It makes a great Christmas gift!
I especially liked... | ||
...the writing style and drawings of J.R.R. Tolkien once more captivates the reader no matter how old he/she is. I enjoy the fact that the Tolkien family preserved the myth of Father Christmas for their children and Tolkien himself embellished this notion with his excellent writings.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
...write my own letter to my daughter from Father Christmas. This book gave us (me and my daughter) the opportunity to come closer and share Christmas holidays in a most pleasant way.
This Book made me feel...
...like I was a child again, and everything was possible!
The author of this Book...
...not only illustrated each letter but he also made suitable envelopes and stamps for the letters to look as if they were delivered from North Pole. He used to place the letters on the mantelpiece and leave footsteps of snow on the carpet.
I recommend this Book because...
...it was not meant to be a book. Each letter was written for Tolkien's children and it contains all the real love and care of a devoted father to his children. Some years after Tolkien's death, his son Christopher Tolkien decided to publish those letters all together in a book.
Further Comments... | ||
The last letter, on Christmas 1939 contains a moving message stating the fact that children will grow up and will forget all about Father Christmas and his letters.
