Summary of this CDs & Vinyl...
Where her debut showed promise, Like A Virgin goes to the next step and delivers. The singles here are landmark, most notably Material Girl and the legendary title tune, but the album is more than mere backing for these classics. Supporting singles Angel and Dress You Up both carry their charms, and the remaining filler is both more catchy and memorable than it probably deserved to be. There is even room for balance here on ballads such as Love Don’t Live Here Anymore. The only reason Like A Virgin may sound a little dated is due to its scores of subsequent imitators, and Madonna’s surpassing of its achievements with her next album. Indeed, this is still Madonna the pop singer, not Madonna the star, and perhaps that’s the reason the album itself feels like emerging genius rather than untouchable inspiration. US release also includes the hit Into The Groove.
