Summary of this Book...
Potok's novel deals with two boys brought together by a baseball accident, and their ensuing friendship. It also details each boy's discoveries about each other, and himself
This type of Book is good for...
Jews and gentiles alike. .especially those with somewhat of an interest in the culture or religion that is Judaism
I especially liked... | ||
references to Shabbat, the formation of Israel and typical Jewish ways of life. . because I have a marked interest in Judaism and the current Israel
I didn't like... | ||
someone's decision in the book--but if I told you who and what, it would spoil major parts in the book! I also was dissatisfied with the ending, but, such is life, and such is an author's choice. .to end a book the way he sees fit.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
at least learn a little bit more about Hasidism
This Book made me feel...
enlightened as well as proud(proud of myself, that I knew at least a little about Potok's subject matter)
The author of this Book...
obviously knows what he is writing about, but he doesn't come off as pretentious or condescending, because he writes fiction here
I recommend this Book because...
Potok's writing teaches, as well as tells a story, but his writing is so masterful that you won't realize you've been learning, until after you've read and thought about the story
