Summary of this Book...
Chris George and his partner, Mike, are a team in the Coast Guard's new drug-bust program. They are the best trainer-dog partnership, and thus are the first to be tested in a real-life situation. Unfortunately, they cause a very embarressing mess. It's such an embarressment, that Chris is taken off of the program, and Mike is going to be sold. Chris then finds himself with a choice; he had been saving money for some property, but buying Mike would pretty much be a choice between the dog or the farm Chris had wanted. He buys Mike, but still harbors the hope that something will happen... And something does happen... just not what Chris might have wanted. Christ takes a job at the post office as a night guard-- and Mike finds dope in a package. But what is Chris to do? He's working two jobs, living off base, has a boss on base who would suspect him if he had anything to do with dope ever again... and to top it of, he's being followed by someone at night, and has met a girl named Jennie.
This type of Book is good for...
This book isn't an adult book-- it's targeted towards kids, and is a fine book to read aloud. But it does have some concepts you need to match to your child's maturity level. It contains drugs, guns, and some quick escapes.
I especially liked... | ||
I read this book when I was younger, and I thought that the end was surprising. Looking back, maybe it wasn't that surprising... but that's what I thought the first time.
I didn't like... | ||
I didn't like how Jennie, Chris's girlfriend, is rather dependant on him. She's leaving a bad family situation, and tends to let Chris make decisions. Kinda weak in character. I know some people do act this way... but I don't have to like it.
The author of this Book...
The author could have done better with the ending-- they catch a criminal-- and that's it. The book ends with the takedown. The book could have gone on a bit longer, and tied things up completely. It'll do as it is; but it could have been better.
