This is a book in the tradition of Kit William's Masquerade from 1979.

The difference is, this time, it's in the USA, and I'm not three. :)

The Whistle Pig, by Duck Miller, is a collection of ten short stories that propose to lead the reader to an actual physical key hidden somewhere in the United States.

The stories on their own were average on first read, but better every time. The Americana feel of the book can easily distract you from details thrown in to guide you, either to or away from the key.

There are some clues that stand out, some that only surface after deep digging, and some even hidden in the book layout.

All in all, well worth getting.

I have seen it marketed as a young adult book in most places. There is a small amount of language, and the puzzle is very complicated (or seems to be, anyway . . .) - I would say a responsible junior high student would enjoy it.

Easy. Begin again, highlighter in hand.

It is a refereshing trip into the intellect, both in and of itself, as well as the referencing and digging required to solve the riddle.

If logic puzzles and history channel specials are up your alley, try this book.
