Summary of this DVD... | ||
A epic telling of the strategy used on both sides of the Civil War. All the major battles are depicted without the usual gratuitous blood and mayhem that had been typical of Hollywood in the past decade. The movie is paced more like a documentary or educational video. The humanity of the Generals is repeatedly brought to the fore (he was a good husband and god fearing man...). The DVD switches sides in the middle of a cavalry charge, most disappointing.
This type of DVD is good for...
Learning a little more about the Civil War.
I especially liked... | ||
The even portrayal of both sides of the conflict.
I didn't like... | ||
The Generals gathered around a table in somebody's tent to discuss the upcoming battle. They say from which direction the charge will come and where the reinforcements will hide- none of this is informational without a map. Perhaps one should have been enclosed with the DVD.
Further Comments... | ||
I am an Epic History Movie buff. This film left me wanting overall, it lacked the passion that a great epic needs.
