Summary of this Book...
Comanche Moon, the final book in Augustus McRae and Woodrow Call saga, takes place some years before the events of Lonesome Dove. Gus and Call are now in their middle years, still fighting the aging Buffalo Hump and other Indian renegades along with a quirky commanding officer, Inish Scull, the sweet and loyal Long Bill Coleman, young and supersticious Pea-Eye Parker, kind and giving Deets and impetuous Jake Spoon. The story follows a number of diverging storylines, including Woodrow's relationship with the whore, Maggie, and her bastard son, Newt, who is Woodrow's illegitimate child. The fall of Buffalo Hump from a cunning warlord to a sickly old man is also chronicled along with the rise of his cold-blooded offspring, Blue Duck.
This type of Book is good for...
People who love the characters from Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo and Dead Man's Walk. You have to read all these books to appreciate the saga as a whole.
I especially liked... | ||
Long Bill Coleman. I just love him. The time Inish Scull spends in the custody of the Black Vacquero is equally disturbing and powerful.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to start on the saga from the beginning.
The author of this Book...
Larry McMurtry is my all time favorite author of westerns and modern fiction.
