This book begins just after a fire has ravaged Kerbouchard's home. His mother dead and his father sold into slavery. He sails the wonders of the Byzantine empire in search of his captive father.

The rich wonder of the ancient world are a vivid back drop for Kerbouchard's adventures. Danger waits at every turn and Kerbouchard stay one step of failure.

This book is a wonderful read for anyone who is interested in midevil times.

The one spot of this book that has stuck with me is a scene where Kerbouchard is crawling thru a dark nearly airless tunnel to freedom.

There honestly isn't one spot in this book I didn't like. I had a hard time putting it down.

Read it again. When I did, I noticed more of the smaller details I had missed the first time.

I was enthralled from the first page. I was swept away by Mr. L'Amour ablitiy to paint vivd scenery without losing the story.

Louis L'Amour is a traditional western writer. The Walking Drum is one of his few non-westerns.

I had a hard time putting it down. It is trully worht the time to read. It is a little known treasure and I think more people should read this book.

Just be careful who you lend this book to, you may not get it back. I have gone thru 4 copies because my friends loved it so much.
