Summary of this Book...
This book contains exerts from the journals, diaries and letters from Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Abigail Adams, Eilizabeth Gertrude Stern and more. By reading these entry's and the comments by the editor of the book, the reader gains a historical context of American life that is not often gained by reading biographies.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone interested in American history or women's studies.
I especially liked... | ||
The editor has a very smooth writing voice.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read more about some of the women who's writing I had just read. Especially Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
This Book made me feel...
Glad that I was not born before I was. Though I may sometimes feel that things are not fair to me due to my sex, I can see from reading this book that I'm a long way from being oppressed.
The author of this Book...
Eve Merriam (editor) is a well known poet and author.
I recommend this Book because...
It's nice to hear from women of the past. I've read a lot of histories and biographies, but not nearly enough from the women's point of view. There's a very big difference between the way men saw things historically and the way women saw them.
Further Comments... | ||
This book has very nice pictures of many of the women who's writings are contained within.
