Summary of this Book...
Jessica Darling is a bright intelligent 16 year old who lives in Pineville, New Jersey. Life has taken a turn for the worse with her. Her best friend, Hope, has moved away and now she has no one to turn to. Everyday, she has to deal with her materialistic "pals", which she has dubbed The Clueless Crew. Also, having a crush on her track meet teammate, Paul, makes her life harder. She is determined to get through it all, no matter what happens.
I especially liked...
I liked the humor and dry wit from someone so young. The character of Jessica knows better than most of her counterparts, but also has insecurities. I also liked the references to John Hughes films (since that I lived through that generation).
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Get ready for Second Helpings (There is a sample chapter from the next book to help make your decision if you want to press on).
The author of this Book...
Megan McCaffery was senior articles editor for many top magazines such as Maxim, Details, and Cosmopolitan. This is her first novel.
I recommend this Book because...
Were you a teenager once? Are you a teenager now? This is your guide to those times.
Further Comments...
I am 30, male, and really like it. It was well written and I cannot wait to read the sequel. If you are still in high school or years removed from it, it is very relatable material. It is full of strong language, so it is made for certain age limits. McCafferty has taken what she has learn from her journalism days writing on youth, and made it into something entertaining. She definately is onto something good, and I hope the adventures of Jessica Darling continue for a long while.
