This book is about the sinking of the whaleship Essex and the story behing each of the men that were on the ship. only 8 of the 20 men made it back alive. the book went into a lot of detail about the starvationa nd dehydration of the men, this is not a book for those who are weaked stomached!

The fact that it was a real story which made the dangers to the men much more real.

Some of the way the book was written, it was full of quotes, and while some of them were very good it did interupt the story a bit, but then i am into fiction which has no quotes...

Go out fishing with my father.

Sad for the diffuculties the men faced, and interested in the habits of sperm whales.

Is Nathaniel Philbrick. he is very through in his research and he has put together a great book.

Because it lets people see the true story behind the book Moby Dick and to realize the terrifying danger of fishing and whaleing.

I would only not recomend this book to those who are easily grossed out or those who get bored easily with non-fiction books. other than that, read on folks!

This book gives a lot of insight into the world of whaleing, and it describes in detail about what the men on the Essex do to catch the whale and prepare its blubber for oil, it is extreamly interesting and you can learn a lot form this book.
