A collection of poems in which the author carries us with her on a journey through nearly a century of American life. Her strong voice and unique style, accompanied by eighty three years of life experience, transform the pages of this book into a richly textured landscape that we have all seen, but few of us have taken the time to notice.

To pick one or two things about this book that I enjoyed more than any other is not an easy task. If forced to I would have to say that what really stands out in her work is her ability to bring paradoxical images together such as Canna and cannon in her poem "Asbury Park, 1915". Throughout the book she shows her ability to combine what should be opposites and give beauty to what should be grotesque.

Virginia Hamilton Adair is 83 and Ants On Melon is her first published work. It is in one way a shame she waited so long to let the public into her world, but then again, without a lifetime of experience and wisdom, I am fairly certain the world wouldn't have held near the wonder it does now. Ms. Adair so late in life has given the world of poetry a great treasure and even with her limited body of work deserves recognition as one of the greats.

This book is a splendid work of art. Poetry at its apex. To all lovers of poetry and those who have yet to find that love, I gaurantee this book will not disappoint.
