Summary of this Book...
This is about getting your screenplay past the first person to see your script once you've sent it out. Before actors are hired, sets designed, and even before an executive gives studios and producers the hard sell on your script--you must pass the approval of the Hollywood Script Reader. This book is filled with insider tips on how to make sure your script doesn't hit the slush pile: pitfalls to avoid, and ideas to strengthen your work.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone wanting to get their script read, and hopefully bought!
I especially liked... | ||
There was a nice balance between the do's and don't do's. Just when you begin to think, "Oh no! I think made my subplot too weak," or "I have too many scenes for one element," or "What am I doing? I can't write a screenplay," Lerch offers ideas to bring your work back up to par and satisfy even your toughest critic--you. I liked the format as well. Each tip is set apart from the rest, and divided into sections for easy retrieval of information as you edit your work.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Rework a few scenes, delete others and add in all new ones. I can't help but go work on a script after I put this book down.
This Book made me feel...
As though I do have something good to offer. When you get to passages that have you nodding, saying "I did that already!" or "Hey, I think I'm a natural at that," your confidence builds. I'm more confident in my screenwriting ability and the potential success I'll have in getting one of my scripts made into a movie.
The author of this Book...
Hollywood Script Readers are writers or former writers who know what to look for. Jennifer Lerch is a professional in the business. She's been a Hollywood Reader for more than a decade, and eight of those year were with the William Morris Agency (the largest talent and literary agency in the world).
I recommend this Book because...
Once you've got your screenwriting skills down, this is that little extra push that could put your script on a studio executive's desk.
Further Comments... | ||
With the competition as tough as it is out there, anything that helps you get the tip of your toe in the door is a Godsend and shouldn't be overlooked! This book could be just what you need to get your script to the level producers want.
