Summary of this Book...
Helen Potter lived a lower middle class life in a London flat. Then her father begins to sexually abuse her and it made her life a living hell. She then decides she can't take it anymore and heads for the streets of London, where her only companion is a pet rat. Finding inspiration in Beatrix Potter, she begins to take a journey of self exploration.
I especially liked...
The art was excellent and the locales were drawn in such great detail. The story was also well done. For some Americans, the British slang and dialects may confuse a few. But it doesn't take anything away from the story.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to cry. It is such a well told story and a great story for people who suffer from abuse of any sort.
This Book made me feel...
Emotional. I do not like people who abuse their children and felt like I wanted to beat up Helen's father for what he did.
The author of this Book...
Bryan Talbot really did his homework on this project. He used models from an local college as inspirations for the characters in the story. He also visited local places to use in his story.
I recommend this Book because...
I recommend this for victims of abuse and the people who have survived it. I always think fiction and televison programs that speak out against abuse can provide a wake up call to the many that suffer at the hands of a parent, boyfriend, husband, or significant other.
Further Comments...
This book is hard to find. But it is worth the trouble. Some comic book shops can find it for you as they have it in stock. It is availible in libraries and some abuse centers.
