Summary of this Book...
A Unicorn who is afraid that she is the very last one of her kind. She goes on a quest to find others of her kind. Along the way she meets...are you ready for this... Schmendrick the "Magician", (i LOVE that name,its great!), Molly and a Prince, not to mention the fierce and dreaded Red Bull.
I especially liked... | ||
I loved, loved LOVED his beautiful imagery! I, myself, personally like the movie this book was based on very much, and they hardly cut anything from the book in the movie, but whereas the movie, while a good piece of animation, is aimed, to some extent at least, at kids, the book has alot more deepth, and lots of heavy themes and plays on reality in it. Theres a ton of levels and deepth to it, much more so then the movie.
I didn't like... | ||
I think i pretty much enjoyed the whole thing...the book itself is fairly short..somewhere in the neighborhood or about 170-200 pages, and goes fairly quick, but its just packed with all sorts of themes and such.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Finish reading the rest of his books. He's also written "Flight of Dragons" which I cant really explain...if this makes any sense its sort of a cross between a fantasy tale and a guide to dragons. I highly recommend it. He's written some excellent YA books too, I love "the Gift" in partiular, though this may only be at libraries;i believe its out of print, it took me forever to get a copy, and that was several years ago. He's a magificent author. I also wanted to watch the movie again, and get the soundtrack(also out of print :()
This Book made me feel...
Elated, sad, wonderous.
The author of this Book...
Is one of the more amazing fantasy writers of our time, and should be praised along with Tolkien, and the other fantasy greats. You can decide those for yourselves :)
I recommend this Book because...
Its beautiful, with a wonderful and creative plot. Full of meaning and deepth...only dont try and analize it too much; somethings just have to be enjoyed for what they are.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Not for people who anr't serious fantasy lovers. you also should have a good vocab, as is it can be adult, not meaning sex or violence releted, but its meant probably for older readers. Its more adult, children may not understand somethings. Its almost on the border of gothic, as it can be pretty dark at times. Its not all rainbows and love like the movie mostly is.
Further Comments... | ||
