This book is a chronological series of stories where the exploration and colonization of Mars is the main theme. The early expeditions met with martians, some real and some figments of the imagination, that would hamper the rocket crews and their missions. Then the humans had a stronghold on the red planet and then the migration of several thousand started happening on a regular basis.




Each short story would show the viewpoints of another family, person, or group. The characters would change from story to story.

In most of the stories there was a lot of death and killing. I usually don't mind violence but it was getting to be a little to frequent and in my opinion it was taking away from the overall story. Don't feel bad Ray, I don't like a lot of western either.
