Summary of this Book...
The more I read about Jimmy Carter, the sadder I am that he only got to serve one term as President. This book, as well other things that I've read over the years and seeing what he's done with his time since his tenure in the White House, demonstrate just what a fundamentally good, kind, and thoughtful man that he is. He's clearly put a lot of time into examining his faith, and - to my surprise - has also reconciled that against other philosophers and thinkers, not necessarily all Christian. It's unusual to find someone who is well-read about all kinds of religious topics and has thought that extensively about how everything is interconnected, and it was a really interesting read. The only slight criticism I have of the book is that not all of it is for casual readers. There are plenty of general anecdotes and ideas in the book, but he also goes really in-depth with some philosophical and theological concepts and, while he does provide the applicable quotes to give context, it's one of those books where I was thinking, "If I really want to understand what he's saying here, there's a whole bibliography of other books that I should probably also read to fully understand." Which is an interesting and what I'm sure would be a rewarding challenge, but I won't be embarking on that journey anytime soon. Still, this was a really good read.
