Summary of this Book...
I've been on a real Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) kick lately, watching and listening to a ton of content about running better campaigns and building better characters. It reminded me that I had this book sitting on my shelf, which is a graphic novel based on a popular live play D&D campaign released as a podcast. Three brothers (Justin, Travis, and Griffin) had a very popular podcast called My Brother, My Brother and Me, and they convinced their dad Clint to join them in recording themselves playing D&D and releasing it as The Adventure Zone Podcast. The whole family is hilarious, and their followers basically listen to them stumbling around the adventures in the campaign, the best of which were apparently turned into a series of graphic novels like this one. One thing I like about The Adventure Zone is that they're never short on laughs. But I do sometimes think that they're more interested in silly humor or ridiculousness than actually playing D&D well, so I don't love The Adventure Zone as much as some of the more serious live play endeavors out there. This graphic novel kind of captured that same essential conflict for me, where some elements were really funny and well done, but there were also a lot of silly elements that I found myself kind of rolling my eyes at. Overall, I thought this was an entertaining read, but I found myself tuning out a bit from time to time, and I'm not sure that I'm going to be in a huge rush to check out the other graphic novels in the series.
