Summary of this Book...
This "book" made me furious, and probably mostly because I really liked it. I use the word "book" in quotation marks because that 30 pages referenced above isn't because I DNF'ed this title; that's the entire length of the piece. To be fair, Amazon First Reads did call it a "bonus short read" but the item itself essentially a prologue that's been pulled out of the main narrative, created as an independent title, and labeled as "Book 1" in a series. The narrative itself follows a special forces team whose plane crashes and they seek refuge in a creepy, old, abandoned fortress they find nearby. They discover the titular iron box inside, and then the story abruptly ends with the implication that you'll have to buy the next book to actually find out where the story is going to go. Like I said above, I think I'm more annoyed than anything because I actually was interested in where the story was going. I would have rather they just included this as a prologue as part of the next book and sold them together, rather than pulling a fast one on the reader and basically teasing them in hopes you'll hook them and get them to buy the next book. It feels like a cheap marketing stunt and it makes me specifically want to not read the next book rather than piquing my interest. What's going to happen with the iron box and the boy contained inside it? I guess I'll never know...
