This book is an autobiography of Sidney Poitier. In his book, he tells us in detailed stories about his childhood and the wisdom he gained from his parents, his youth and his leaving home to be on his own. He tells us of his struggles to find work and maneuver his way through a society that told him he had less worth because of the colour of his skin. And he tells us about his refusal to personalize society's image of him and the valuable lessons of life he learned for himself and about himself.

Well, I listened to Mr. Poitier read his book, with all the excitement, laughter and seriousness in his voice. What a joy. And when I finished it, I ordered a copy of the book, so I could read it at my leisure.

This book made me feel so moved, to hear about a man who came from nothing and made himself such a star. And yet, he didn't even regard himself as "big shot", he was just so humble.

It is a true rags to riches story.

I was moved by the conversation Sydney Poitier and friends had about hope, and what they should tell their children about life and the real world they will face. Very enlightening. Read it, you won't be disappointed.
