Summary of this Book...
From the Flap:
The combat record of the 30th Infantry Division in the European Theatre in World War II led it to being named the "outstanding infantry division of the ETO" by Colonel SLA Marshall, the US Army historian for the theatre. The men of the 30th stood their ground and save the Normandy breakout at Mortain; they were among the first to breach the Siegfried line and penetrate Germany at Aachen; and they stopped Kamfgruppe Peiper cold, the tip of the spear of the German advance at the Battle of Bulge.
This type of Book is good for...
A historical and realistic look at the fighting of World War II.
I especially liked...
My Uncle Harold was interviewed for the book and he's in there as "Harold Williams." He was a combat engineer for the 30th Infantry Division.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Well, I was kind of drained. It's a good solid, realistic look and the day-in, day-out of war is a bit draining.
This Book made me feel...
Like we've forgotten a bit of our history.
I recommend this Book because...
It's gritty, raw, and real. It's a good look at the 30th Division, what they went through, what war is like, how draining it is and because we've got to be reminded that war is hell and it doesn't need to be repeated.
Further Comments...
For me, the book was a bit of a slow read, but I wanted to take my time with it. It's a good World War II book, but it focuses on the Division, and gives a narrower view of the war as opposed to most books that give an overview.
