Summary of this Book...
I was looking forward to reading this book. I have always loved Miriam Margolyes. She comes across as funny, genuine and, yes, a little bit odd. When I saw her in 'Harry Potter' as Professor Sprout, it made me love her even more. And so, I was looking forward to this book. After reading it, I wish I hadn't. My opinion of Ms Margolyes has gone way down. After reading this, I find her crass, objectionable and judgemental against everyone who she believes is beneath her intelligence. Which, I think, is everyone. She dismisses the public, saying she doesn't care whether people like her or not, they aren't worth her time. Which is absolutely her right and, in some ways, a good approach to life. But she sounds so mean-spirited and cruel in her assessments of them. She even names and slates people she's worked with as being unworthy of her praise.
This type of Book is good for...
People with similar outlooks on life. By that, I mean people who don't generally like people. Also, I guess, die-hard Miriam fans will like it.
I especially liked... | ||
It was funny. I can't take that away from Miriam. She does have a funny sense of humour, and she does share it with us from time to time.
I didn't like... | ||
How crass it is. I can't tell you how many times Mirian discussed "sucking off" various men. She used a lot of curse words and crass words. Now, I don't usually mind that. Bad language doesn't bother me. But it felt unnecessary here. It was like she was just saying the words to see who she could alienate. Like she thought it was clever.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Erase it from my memory.
This Book made me feel...
Angry. Fed up. Though, at times, amused.
The author of this Book...
Miriam Margolyes. Film star. Lesbian. Jewish. I think those are the things she wants people to know about her.
I recommend this Book because...
I can't. | ||
I don't recommend this Book because...
