Summary of this Book...
This adorable children's book caught my eye because of the picture of Max on the front of the books. I'm hoping that I will learn more about writing children's books from reading some. The rhymes in this book are fantastic. They made me laugh and smile and just generally enjoy myself. I could imagine children being captivated by the story of this cute puppy who is a mix of funny, naughty, and heart meltingly cute. I particularly liked the mention of Max's terrible manners when eating and his snoring in his bed. They made me laugh out loud. Memories of my old dog, Alfie filled my head. Just before the end, the children are asked how many red balls they have found through the book. I admit, I went back and counted. This is a great way to involve the children in the book. Although, honestly, Max will have done that by himself. At the end of the book, Max stretches and yawns and goes to sleep. This is lovely for children, and hopefully, they will feel calm and relaxed and ready for bed. It's a great bedtime story.
This type of Book is good for...
Children aged 1 to 5, maybe a bit older. I recommend it.
I especially liked... | ||
The rhymes. The humour. Although written for children, it made me laugh, too. The pictures are nice as well.
I didn't like... | ||
I read the Kindle version, but I read it on my iPad, so all the pictures were in colour. They didn't, however, completely fit together. A couple of places, they were cut off on one page, then ended once the page was turned. I'm sure this won't be an issue in the paperback version.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Go to bed. | ||
This Book made me feel...
Happy. Amused. Wistful (thinking of Alfie).
The author of this Book...
Lee Braithwaite. | ||
I recommend this Book because...
It's a lovely, happy, funny story with the most adorable puppy.
Further Comments... | ||
As I said, I read the Kindle version on my iPad. This wasn't ideal. Some of the pictures didn't quite line up - they were cut off before the edge of them. Reading this has renewed my interest in writing children's stories. It's even created an idea in me to write about my old dog, Alfie. He was so funny, but so kind. I could definitely write cute, funny books with him as the star. He was born to be a star
