Summary of this Book...
"Oliver Twist is one of Dickens's most popular novels, with many famous film, television and musical adaptations. It is a classic story of good against evil, packed with humour and pathos, drama and suspense, in which the orphaned Oliver is brought up in a harsh workhouse, and then taken in and exploited by the criminal Fagin, before being eventually rescued and taken in by a loving family." from Amazon.

Oliver's highs and lows were more than described above and definitely made for a riveting read for me. I can't imagine a little boy being forced to sleep where he did at the undertaker's and his spunk in defending his mother's reputation was a surprise, especially following that night. I had thought he'd be beaten down but he maintained grit and what he could of his honor throughout the story, even when people didn't believe or trust him. When the reason behind the determination to turn Oliver into a thief came to light, things came together. It had a full circle ending, although, there was two characters who died who I really wish could have been saved (one human, one animal).
This type of Book is good for...
People who like classic stories, stories featuring an underdog, stories featuring drama and intrigue, stories featuring interpersonal drama, crime stories, dramatic stories and / or family stories.
I especially liked...
Oliver's spunk / grit. Nancy's good deeds. The good characters, especially Rose. Oliver's end result and happy looking future. The redemption of the other boy at the end.
I didn't like...
As mentioned earlier, the two deaths ... I guess one was necessary for the story but the animal's death wasn't.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Help orphans.
This Book made me feel...
Very engaged, just about everything Oliver, Rose and Nancy felt.
The author of this Book...
"Charles Dickens (1812-70) was an English writer, generally considered to be the greatest novelist of the Victorian period and responsible for some of English literature's most iconic novels and characters. He continues to be one of the best-known and most read of English authors, with multiple adaptations of his work frequently being produced." From Amazon.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a great story.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not for someone who would be triggered by child abuse, child labor, violence against women and other tough subjects.
Further Comments...
I read this book for Rach's Reading Club.
