Summary of this Book...
I enjoyed this book. I bought it because I wanted to read something of Nora Roberts. I was interested to see how she writes. I didn’t really know what the book would be about other than I thought it would be a bit of a thriller. And it was. A little bit. But it was also a lot of romance and character evolvement.

The plot is sweeping, in that lots of things happen, and it takes place over a number of years. However, a lot of those years are skipped over, and we don’t see the characters of Zane and Britt as they grow up and overcome their childhood. We just know that they have. To an extent, but the under currents of their past trauma stays with them, sometimes right on the surface, but, mostly, hidden.

The book begins with brother and sister Zane and Britt Bigelow who are physically abused by their father and neglected by their mother. We see them escape. This is the first part of the book, and it is really exciting. I tore through this first part of the book. And then, we are propelled forward about fifteen years, and we see Britt, Zane, Emily, and their families thriving. Darby arrives in Lakeview, and we know straight away she will become Zane’s partner.

The danger lies in Zane and Britt’s Dad being released on parole, and we know he must return to try to hurt his children. Also, Darby has her own abusive partner in her past, and we have the feeling he will appear at some point.

The second part of the book, I thought was a little soggy. I found myself bored. The interesting bits were when danger was nearer the surface. When things were quieter, the love story was nice. I loved Zod the dog. But the middle wasn’t as interesting as the beginning and end.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I recommend it.
This type of Book is good for...
Lovers of psychological thrillers. People who enjoy good, fleshed out stories. Lovers of romance. In all honesty, I think there is a bit of something for most people in this book.
I especially liked...
Zod the dog. He is so cute. I worried for his safety at one point. I don't think I could have stood to see him not make it. I enjoyed the romance aspect more than I would have thought I would. It's not normally my thing. But, Zane and Darby are just so good together.
I didn't like...
The soggy middle when most of what was written didn't seem to important for the res of the story.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Find more Nora Roberts to read.
This Book made me feel...
Angry (because of Zane and Britt's parents). Tense. On the edge of my seat. Intrigued. Happy.
The author of this Book...
Nora Roberts. I had a look online to try to find ore of her books, but all the ones I looked at seemed to be more about romance than suspense, like this one. So I didn't get any.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a good, suspenseful, enjoyable read.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It is longer than it needs to be.
