Summary of this Book...
This is book two in Kiera Cass' "The Selection" series and it continues the exciting story of young America Singer, Prince Maxom and the many other characters remaining after book one.

I highly recommend reading book one first, though the author does give back story as needed. In book one, the pool of potential brides for Prince Maxom started out at 35 young ladies and got narrowed to six.

Book two goes into more depth on those who remain, America's torn heart between her old hometown ex boyfriend, new love for Prince Maxom, and her fears over whether she'd be a suitable princess/queen for her country. This book includes some difficult scenes and more rebel attacks and highlights America's personal values. Some surprising things about the Prince are revealed and we're left with four female competitors at the end of this book.
This type of Book is good for...
People who are fans of "The Bachelor," royal stories, future stories, young adult stories, and/or emotional stories.
I especially liked...
How America fought to try to save her friend Marlee. The secret extra nice side to Prince Maxom. Most of America's character, particularly the strength of her love for her family and friends, how she wants to do what's best for her country, for those who suffer and for those in lower castes.

I loved some of the scenes, and really felt like I was living some of them.
I didn't like...
The evil characters, but that's to be expected. I didn't care for America's temper tantrum or lack of self control in certain areas. But she is just seventeen so there are some things that aren't admirable, but that's understandable for her age. It doesn't ruin the book, I just have to keep her age in mind. It was a little more emotional and not quite as great as the first book, but was still an excellent read.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next one! And I already checked it out from the library so I can start it tonight.
This Book made me feel...
Sometimes like I was living America's life with her and sometimes more like I was watching it up close but definitely emotionally involved.
The author of this Book...
From Amazon: "Kiera Cass is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Selection series and The Siren. She is a wife and mom and too many other things to list. If she could make a crown out of anything, it would be the unending tears of her readers. You can learn more about Kiera and her books at www.kieracass.com."
I recommend this Book because...
It was engaging and interesting to read. I enjoyed it a lot.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Excessive violence might be a problem for some readers.
Further Comments...
I think this is considered a "young adult" and "dystopian future" novel.
