Further Comments...
“Emma in the Night” is a fictional story about two sisters who disappeared three years ago. The story starts when one of the sisters returns to her family home, but the other sister is still missing. I have to say, I really enjoyed this book. It was clever and so realistic. I’ve said this before about mystery/detective novels like this, but if the investigation seems unbelievable, the whole story suffers greatly. Similarly, if the detectives are blatantly inept (or the reader can solve the mystery before the characters in the story), then the book isn’t as compelling overall and frustrating too. This story does everything right in this department. The characters are all believable, and Abby is smart, capable, and able to see the subtle clues that ultimately solve the mystery.

It is also one of those books that begs to be read again. From the beginning, the reader knows something is amiss about the whole situation. It cannot be a simple case of abduction or suicide, there has to be something more sinister going on. Still, when the reveal finally comes, it changes everything that came before. Every interaction leading up to the reveal takes on a new light and makes the reader want to go back and see how all the clues actually fit together. I thought the mystery in this book was very well done and something I could imagine happening in real life. Each character had their own backstory and motives, which made following their individual journeys very satisfying.

TLDR: Worth a read for fans of detective stories!
