Summary of this Book...
This is the story of a missing husband, a grieving family – who thinks the husband is dead, a curious clue: a half-finished manuscript set in Paris – a place both husband and wife wanted to visit when they were young. Heading off in search of its author, a mother and her daughters find themselves in France, rescuing a failing bookstore and drawing closer to unexpected truths.
The marriage of Robert Eady and his wife Leah is not as happy as they let others know. Robert feels stifled by having a family and its obligations. He tells Leah he is going to give up writing, but instead he disappears. He often takes ‘writeaways’ – time apart from the family to write, but this time he does not return.
When Leah finds his tickets to Paris, France she encouraged by a family friend to take her daughters and go. While there she comes to the realization that although she misses her husband, she does not miss him as much as she really should. His writerly ways took its toll on her and she was finding relief in him being gone.
I found the book dense and heavy. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I had hoped.
This type of Book is good for...
Those people, who like me enjoy reading books that take place in Paris, France.
I especially liked...
The transitional aspect of Leah and her children as they learn to move on after Robert's disappearance.
Further Comments...
I first noticed this book in hardcover and waited until I found it in paperbck form to buy it.
