Summary of this Book...
Queen of Air and Darkness is the third book of Cassandra Clare's The Dark Artifices trilogy. The main characters in this book are a group of teenagers who are Shadowhunters. On behalf of all world religions, they hunt and exterminate demons who enter the human realm. As the teen-aged Shadownhunters go through their adventures, they fall in love and have all sorts of relationships with each other. Teen angst and anxieties are frequently mentioned. Since these books are fantasy-action-adventures with romance, there are ample descriptions of the physical attributes of the characters. Relationships are not limited to heterosexual relationships. Cassandra Clare explores the whole spectrum of romance from hetero, to gay, to polyamory, and also has a transgender individual play a major role. Racism is explored through humans mixing with fairies and other non-humans, while human skin-color racism is not much of an issue in this book. In this third book, many of the events set up in books 1 & 2 come full circle as would be expected. However, the end of the book with give you a hint at more books to come either within this same series or possibly as a side-plot within another series featuring some of the characters we've met so far. Without spoiling the plot too much: Those couples that we rooted for will end up with each other. Because it's a romance/fantasy book.
This type of Book is good for...
Teenagers, young adults, anyone who enjoys reading fantasy books, anyone who enjoys reading action/adventure books. Anyone who either likes romance in those settings or is okay with the addition of romance to an action/adventure plot.
I especially liked... | ||
I enjoyed reading this book because of the rich world Cassandra Clare has created. As writers, we often hear the "good" advice not to use to many adjectives. Cassandra Clare did not get the memo, which means her world is filled with colors and descriptive words. I find it enhances the experience of reading her books.
I didn't like... | ||
Cassandra Clare's male heroes all follow the same prototype character development. They go from lost, sarcastic, rude, and outright mean to being the most amazing hero. And they are always exceedingly good looking, tall, and once they lose their bad attitude, the sweetest male lead you can think of. This has been true of all male leads she's presented so far.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read more. There is another series that will come out later in 2019, but I won't buy or read it because it's going to be the first of a new series. And, as I said, I only read her books once I am able to hold the whole trilogy in hand.
This Book made me feel...
This book mostly made me feel entertained. I enjoy the colorful descriptions. I like spending time in that fantastical world.
The author of this Book...
Cassandra Clare is an American author. I got to see her once at a book signing. She's nice in that setting.
I recommend this Book because...
It entertained me, which I think is the main reason for reading fiction.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I don't recommend this book to anyone who dislikes fantasy or romance in any form. Those are the prevalent themes and a reader should get enjoyment from that.
Further Comments... | ||
While the book mentions demons and angels, Christmas, and other typical Christian topics, the books are not Christian fiction. They neither endorse nor deny Christianity. I chose to review this third book because Cassandra Clare's books all end on cliffhangers and reading only one never makes any sense. So that part is really something to know. Whenever you want to read any book by Cassandra Clare and it is part of a series, wait until all books in the series are published as book 1 and 2 always leave you with that feeling that you want to read on right away.
