A killer, known as the East County Slayer, is manipulating women into murdering other women. He kidnaps their babies, then tells them they will only get them back if they break into another house and kill that woman (also a young mother). Whomever does the killing can be sure they are next on his list. This book is the story of two of those mothers: Maggie and Holly.

There is so much otential for an edge-of-the-seat thriller within this premise, but it falls a little flat for me. The first half of the book is pure adrenalin. Attempt to murder after attempt to escape, and back again. It’s way too full on. And all a little obvious. There is no chance to step back and think about what you’re reading.

Adrenalin junkies. People who like books that are completely full-on.

The characters of Maggie and Holly. They unravelled slowly, and I liked that.

The furious fast-paced action in the first half.

It is a good premise for a story. So much could have been offered by way of explanation, but it fell flat, I’m afraid. It’s a unique story, and I recommend it for that.

It’s not the cleverest writing or plot resolution.
