Summary of this Book...
This is a mystery that is full of clever twists. In the story, Roxanne Beadleman is a volunteer who, while wearing disguises and using various names, helps abused woman escape from their abusers. In the story, Frank Cape, who is a dangerous man, is after Roxanne because he wants his wife Melissa and his child back, while detective Joe Capistrano who seems to be somewhat sweet on Roxanne is after Roxanne since he is tailing Frank Cape with revenge on his mind, as Cape has shot his partner and Joe wants to find Melissa, too, for her to testify against Frank Cape. The story begins with Roxanne receiving a threat and starting on her way to her Alma Mater’s Homecoming i.e. college reunion in South Bend, Indiana, deciding to attend a wedding. At the wedding, Roxanne’s cousin Angora is left at the altar, and Roxanne helps her escape from her controlling mother, Roxanne’s aunt, and takes her along to their college reunion. Yet, this is only the beginning. Although Roxanne and Angora share the same family and Alma Mater, their characters are each other’s opposite. Of the two characters, Angora shows a positive change by the end of the book while Roxanne’s character stays the same, even though she is the protagonist. The storytelling is typical Stephanie Bond, with clever retorts and dialogue, romance, mystery, and a storyline that turns and twists while being told in clear and direct English and with a comedic zing. I enjoyed reading this book because of Stephanie Bond’s usual handling of original and quirky characters with great skill.
