Summary of this Book...
In this semi-autobiographical book Stephen King talks about his struggles and successes as he became the acclaimed writer he is today, from his early childhood, to his drug addiction, to the car accident which almost killed him, and finally to where he is today.
This type of Book is good for...
Anybody who’s interested in the life of one of the most prolific and famous horror writers of our time. Not many writers open up and allow the public to see their accomplishments, family life, and the demons that come with celebrity status. King also shows the reader the tools of his trade and gives practical advice on what a writer needs to do to be successful.
I especially liked... | ||
King’s honesty and ability to laugh at himself during some of the darkest days of his life when he was just becoming popular, the suggestions and examples he gives on how he became successful in his craft, and how he dealt with the ‘scandal’ of his nom de plume, Richard Bachman, being revealed.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read Danse Macabre again, another of his books that deals with writing horror in a more in-depth, yet general approach.
This Book made me feel...
That becoming a successful writer, not just of horror but of any genre, can be accomplished if somebody really sets their mind to it and doesn’t give up. His example of how his wife, Tabitha, rescued his first novel from the garbage and urged him to continue it was very inspiring, and it may well have been the reason why he is who he is today.
The author of this Book...
Is one of the world's most famous authors of both fiction and fantasy. He's donated thousands, if not millions of dollars to many literary organizations and foundations, as well as scholarships.
I recommend this Book because...
Anyone looking to see the inner life and history of Stephen King would be happy to read this book.
