In 18th century London, a bright red ribbon draws a young, poverty-stricken girl into prostitution. A series of bad choices lead her to a small town, where she finds an opportunity to start fresh. As she considers a more normal life, she discovers that she may not want to settle for average after all.

Mary Saunders is so naive and foolish, that I couldn't help but cheer for her dreams to come true. The historical setting was so raw and real, that it made me feel as if I could relate to Mary.

I was swept away by a myriad of emotions while reading this book. From compassion to fear, I felt as if I knew Mary Saunders.

Made me consider what I would have done if I had been in the same situation. My eyes were opened to a new view of 18th-century British life.
