Summary of this Book...
Alex, the main character and narrator of this 1962 classic, tells of his adolescent life as a brutal gang leader in a futuristic society. Some of the slang he uses might not make sense at first, but as the story progresses and his life as a gang member ultimately sends him to prison, the words eventually do make sense. As he sits in prison, he is presented with a new and somewhat secretive experiment which will make him a law abiding citizen and allow his sentence to be drastically reduced. He readily agrees to it, but there’s a moral and perhaps unethical price he’ll have to pay.
This type of Book is good for...
Anybody interested in a great author of the latter part of the 20th century would be interested in Anthony Burgess's work.
I especially liked...
Burgess's unique style of writing. I've never seen something like this before.
I didn't like...
I wasn't too happy with the made-up slang his characters use at first. It takes a little getting used to, but it does eventually work for this story, and I can understand why he used it.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Go out find another of his books, just to see how else he writes.
This Book made me feel...
A little nostalgic. A Clockwork Orange is certainly a classic, at least for the time when it came out, but I wonder how it would do in the present day.
The n/a of this Book...
Has also written several other books, including 'Nothing Like the Sun', 'Tremor of Intent', and 'Honey for the Bears'.
I recommend this Book because...
If somebody wants to delve into the mind of very original writer of his time, this book would be the one to read.
Further Comments...
This is the first time I've read Anthony Burgess, and it was a fun little ride to read this classic tale. For 212 pages, it was well worth my time.
