Summary of this Book...
A variant of the virus that ran rampant on Archaria III a few years ago ( see "Infection: Double Helix : #1 (Star Trek: The Next Generation Book 51)"  Open in new Window. ) is now loose on Terok Nor.

The Bajorans and Cardassians are both dying, despite it being impossible for both species. The initial virus attacked those of a specific mixed heritage, but this version of the virus attacks species who cannot contract the same disease.

Gul Dukat, the Prefect of Bajor, must restore order. Dying Bajorans means that vital ore is not being processed, and dying Cardassians means that the Bajorans have more freedoms than since the start of the occupation.

The book is set at the end of The Next Generation second season. Dr Crusher has returned to the Enterprise, leaving Dr Pulaski between assignments.

The Bajoran doctor working on the virus persuades Gul Dukat to allow Dr Pulaski, his ex-wife, to bring a small team of Starfleet doctors to help search for a cure.

While Pulaski and her team work under the ever-watchful eye of Dukat, Dukat's actions are under the ever-watchful eye of Central Command, who will stop at nothing to prevent this virus reaching Cardassia.

There is a mysterious "General" who has released this virus, and someone on the station is reporting to the General with updates on how the virus progresses and how Starfleet's progress on a cure is going.
I especially liked...
How this book has similar tones and inflections as the same as the first book, despite being written by a different author.

This book, however, does not try to be Star Trek episode. It focuses on the plot and the plot alone. There is some exploration of the Bajoran resistance, but it is within the confines of the overall plot.
