A kid walks into a police station to confess to a murder. He then tells his story.

In case it wasn't clear from the "Summary" section, this book is a paper-thin story that was readable only because it is very very short.

The characterization is weak. The plot is pretty much nonexistent. The "I killed someone" <insert story of how I killed someone> "Now, you'll learn who I am" plot is old and musty. It has also been done far far better. The author relies heavily on a reader wanting to know who this character is and what he's all about. Sadly, he gives too many hints for it to be an interesting reveal. The kid's name alone (Shane Blank) is a bit too obviously fake.

Like the author has never been around drugs before but felt like writing about drug culture? Lame. The only believable characters were the adults too, which is the kiss of death for a YA book.

I would have just closed it and forgotten about it had I not made a goal for myself to read (and finish) one book per week this year. Like I said, this book is short. Garbage... but short.

I don't understand how this author is popular or has won any awards. This book is badly written, but the guy had lots and lots of books at the library and won the National Book Award for another novel. From a glance through book rating, it appears that this is not considered his best novel. I should hope not.
