Summary of this DVD...
Mariska Hargitay is fantastic in the role of the recently promoted Lieutenant Olivia Benson. She is back for the seventeenth season of the programme that deals with the sex crimes unit of the NYPD.

Along with Hargitay, Ice T is back as Detective Odafin TuTuola. He is the longest serving member of Benson's team. In this season, the other regulars are Amanda Rollins, Sonny Carisi and ADA Rafael Barba. This is a strong team, and when they are joined by Chief Dodds's privileged son, Mike, it takes a while for him to earn their trust. Before long, though, he has proved himself and becomes a valuable member of their team. Until, well, I don't ant to give any spoilers away.

Once again, Hargitay steps into the director's chair for a couple of episodes.

This is season shows Olivia in a surprise relationship. Noah is a cute little guy, and Rollins also has a baby. Heck, there are babies everywhere. Even Fin's son Ken is adopting!

The episodes in this season are as compelling and gritty as previous seasons. Increasingly, though, they have to include social media as both a means to attack and a means to find the attackers. When you look at the SVU department today, compared to that in season one, everything has changed.Since Olivia became the boss, the whole office seems much more open plan and accessible.

The episodes are all of great merit, using bad guy characters from previous episodes to great effect. They all build up to the heart stopping two episode finale. It's absolutely fantastic.
This type of DVD is good for...
People who like police dramas. People who are interested in victims' rights. Actually, just people who like gritty, well acted dramas, in general. Because this is well written and well acted. It's no wonder Hargitay has won an Emmy for her portrayal of Olivia Benson previously.
I especially liked...
I'll admit it, I love Mariska Hargitay. From everything I've ever seen of her being interviewed, I think a lot of Olivia Benson is Mariska. I love the fact that she has created the Joyful Heart Foundation, to raise awareness of victims of abuse. So, yeah. I love Mariska.

I loved the last two episodes. They were very exciting, and I think they have set us up for some exciting openings for season eighteen.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
Watch the next season! I hate that the UK is so far behind the US. Although, I have discovered Universal Channel is now showing the next two seasons. I'm very excited about that.
This DVD made me feel...
Like I want to stand up an talk about my experiences of abuse. I want to make a difference. But it's not going to happen, I'm afraid.
The cast of this DVD...
Stellar! I've already mentioned Mariska Hargitay, but I have to say I'm loving Carisi. He's turned out to be a lot more solid and sensible than I first thought he would be. I love Barba, too. I have a little bit of a crush on him.
I recommend this DVD because...
It raises awareness of abuse. It's incredibly well written and acted. It's great to see the unit evolving with different staff. It's just truly excellent.
