Summary of this Book...
I own the third edition of this book rather than the 7th, but to ensure that the item does not disappear from Amazon, I've chosen the most recent edition to review. The poetry selection is quite good, though it is slanted toward traditional poetry with very little contemporary works. This is not an issue if you know what you're buying.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who wants a basic collection of poetry... those who haven't read much poetry. The book contains lots of "second most famous" poems rather than the most obvious choice from each poet. The only poems I had not read, however, were of the more modern variety, and since the majority of the book is traditional poetry, I had read nearly all of the poems before. Someone just starting their poetry journey will undoubtedly find many gems. It is a reasonable mix.
I didn't like... | ||
Again, concerning the third edition not the seventh, the layout is very distracting. Bios are included on each page in italics. The font size for the poem titles is ludicrously large. The overall appearance is cartoonish and unprofessional in my opinion. Hopefully this was corrected in later editions.
