Summary of this Book...
This the true life story of actress Leah Remini, who was raised by her mother to be a Scientologist. She didn't come to the religion as someone in need - they actually prey upon people who are lost and hurting and alone. This was her family's religion and she became disillusioned after watching the behavior of Tom Cruise and other luminaries of the "church". She writes as an insider who was trained all her life to be a good member of the church. When she became a famous celebrity (after starring in the highly successful sitcom, King of Queens) she was in the highest echeleon of the organization. It was there that she realized that all was not as she had been led to believe and had spent money on for all of her life. This book is definitely written in her own voice - it sounds and reads authentic - and it is an eye opener for anyone who wants to learn more about Scientology. The practice of shunning is an old one and I am sure it hurt terribly when her lifelong friends abandoned and refused to deal with her anymore once she left the church.
I especially liked... | ||
the fact that in the end, Ms. Remini's family was more loyal to her than they were to the church. I'm sure this caused a lot of heartache for her family to make a choice like this.
This Book made me feel...
like the leaders of this religion buy a lot with the money they get from followers. They can even seem to influence and perhaps buy off a police investigation as Ms. Remini proves in her documents on the disappearance of the wife of church figure head.
I recommend this Book because...
anyone considering this religion should read this book first and carefully study the behavior of its purported leadership in the present day. I am not sure that they are in keeping with what was intended originally by the founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
Further Comments... | ||
This is a religion that I would be very careful of steering clear of.
