Summary of this DVD...
This is the volatile sixth season of one of my favorite shows ever. We have been watching it on Amazon Streaming and it is free with the Prime and it is a great show. It certainly stands up to the test of time.

In this sixth season, Bobby and Diane are newly married when Bobby starts to feel poorly. He thinks it is a virus and it is a very serious one. His health and energy deteriorate to the point where he cannot breathe and collapses while on duty.

The squad is devastated by his hospitalization and the fact that he needs a heart transplant. There is a vague reference to him being nicked in a dental procedure shortly before his health took a turn for the worse.

Most of the doctors, (with one notable exception) are arrogant jerks who view him as a statistic they want to pass around from department to department so no one gets stuck with the death that is coming. One doctor tries to add in brain surgery to milk Bobby for every last dime until Diane and a doctor who has a heart put a stop to it. The portrayal of heartless, uncaring doctors is true and timeless. I experienced this myself and no one who has been through it will ever forget it. For that reason, even though this season had me crying twice, it is my favorite season of all.

The use of the roof scenes with Patsy and the pigeons is heart wrenching. Bobby was a favorite of mine and I was very sad to see him go.

Life must go on for Andy, even after the death of his partner. He briefly falls into drinking, but Sylvia kicks him out and he thinks better of it.
Andy's new partner, Danny (played by Rick Schroder) is young and confrontational. He reminds Andy of Andy, Jr. and Andy soon falls into a rhythm with his new cohort.

The season draws to a close with the tragic shooting of John (the P.A.) and Sylvia. The death of Andy's beloved wife is shocking and a tragic end to the season. Once again, Andy suffers a tragedy, but this time he will have to carry on for Theo's sake.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who likes a realistic, well acted police drama.
I especially liked...
Jimmy Smits as Bobby Simone and Rick Schroder, who replaced him as Danny Sorenson, Andy's new partner. The transition was the smoothest they had in the series.
I didn't like...
the fact that Sylvia left the show and was killed off too. I think her death, combined with Bobby's is too much to bear for Andy's character.
I recommend this DVD because...
it is riveting and addicting. I love Andy so was eager to see how things would develop in the future for him.
